    A second Chance?

Ok may be a third or fourth
Been having the worst luck this year deer hunting
after a less than spectacular general rifle season I stumbled into
muzzleloader season and after that a 4 day antlerless only season
I saw very few deer and no bucks had fleeting opportunities but
    failed to connect
now I think I have bounced out of this year deerless but after talking with
a friend he mentioned another season we have called the holiday hunt
which has been offered for years but never in my area so for the heck of it
I check and low and behold they had expanded the area to include my area
so I get one more shot at it
going to use my trusty 358 win with 260 gr PC 16-1 Mountain Molds boolit
brought to life by 40.5 gr.of IMR 3031

Good luck, I know it can get frustrating when you've been hunting the same area for 30 years and thing seem to dry up.

Good luck to you. I've been carrying my .358 with RCBS 217gr over 3031 hoping for a chance at a certain buck before my neighbors get him.......

    Rooting for ya
Paper targets aren't your friends. They won't lie for you and they don't care if your feelings get hurt.

Good luck, sir! I don't believe I have been so unlucky as you. Woods are full of deer every day I am not in them.

well it finally happened I shot a large doe this afternoon in a snow storm
the shot was a lucky offhand shot at 135 yards the doe made a 50 run through
some of the thickest nastiest I have seen
the snow was heavy enough to cover the blood and made tracking interesting
    to say the least
I was making my way to my stand and before I made it I saw her cutting across
my field and heading to the woods but she stopped just before entering and that
is where she met my 260 gr Mountain Molds boolit powder coated with Smokes pc
and slicking up my 16-1 alloy
I missed a red fox the evening before Man they are small lots of tail though

Good job and yes when you get the hide off a fox there's not much of a target left.
Some people live and learn but I mostly just live

just a bit of a follow up on the alloy
it seems the alloy started to expand upon impact
the entrance hole was larger(aprox.1") than the exit(aprox.1/2")
I did also find some lead shards lying under the hide on the exit side
rear ham the deer was hit center chest in lungs
now I can't say for sure but that is how it looked to me unless the flat point
does that and reacts that way
not sure of the velocity but I would guess around 2200 fps

I am sorry we are experiencing Arctic like temps
was -10° the morning of my hunt so I was in a hurry to
process her so pics are no longer a possibility
it is butchered and put in a fridge to keep it from freezing
I do agree the pc was a definite asset

Nicely done WE. I had a slow deer season this year. Hopefully we have a mild winter.

Now save the fat and render it into tallow. Makes the best bullet lube mixed with beeswax and
a little olive oil. Works good as a leather preservative and is good for chapped hands as well.

Could you please explain? I haven't and any luck this year but my buddy has and since I process his deer for him I have access to the deer fat. This year, the deer have more fat than I've ever seen on themer
