The 88's are one of my favorites, actually a fine rifle but most are in such poor condition they aren't given much interest by mil-surp shooters , but if yours has a decent bore, it will surprise you how well it shoots, if you can still see the sights well . I've got a real relic of an 88, from the shipment out of Ecuador by Navy Arms years ago. Looks terrible, but under its rusted out barrel jacket is a brand new shiny barrel. Someday I want to build a new jacket with some type of scout scope mount, and see how the rifle really shoots.
Let us know of your shooting results

The throat is probably .323"+/- and the groove is probably .318"+/- on that old girl.

.................I have a Turk M1935, which is a fully re-worked German M1888. Possibly the Germans made a couple of their mods to it, but the Turks did some work on it also.

I suppose the Turks put it into a Gehwer type stock. It feeds from a stripper, and does not require the packet clip.

..............and is comparable to their own bolt actions in most all regards.

It's wearing pretty much one of their regular bolt action type stocks. However this beast weighs a freaking ton!. Don't know if the weight is from the wood or all the metal from the M88. It is sans the barrel jacket. I could picture some poor little 5'6" Turk trooper humping this thing all over

The bore is in quite excellent condition but it does have a .327" groove, so thank God for the Lee .329" slug intended for the Austrian M95 slug. The rifle is a very fine shooter, but as I mentioned, it weighs a ton!

I was looking at various Mausers in 8mm but I came across this rifle instead. I already have Swedish and Brazilian Mauser. Variety is nice.

It arrived yesterday, pretty good condition for a 126 year old rifle (Loewe 1891)
Stripped down easily, small bits got cleaned in the ultrasonic tank at work.
Lots of elbow grease for the barrel though.
    Bore caked in rust,dirt,copper fouling,etc
Rifling looks poor but is getting better after each soak & clean cycle.

How sharp should the rifling be in this barrel?
I see a consistent rifling all the way thru but it is very faint and rounded
