Found these things at the range today-- Caliber looks like 5.56 Nato or 223 Remington. they look similar to snap caps, but no extractor groove and they are linked together. I'm baffled-- anybody know what they are for??

Primer end is just flat-- no features and no extractor groove.

With that said is the spring fairly stiff? Only thing i can think of is that it was used to put a little pressure on the bolt lug to lap them to the receiver lug recesses.

The linked follower of a snail drum or similar drum?
I've seen a couple of youtube videos of plastic body drums flying apart and scattering parts. An out of battery discharge might do this to an otherwise good drum.

Bingo!-- I think Multigunner got it. With that clue I looked at a few drum magazines and see something that looks just like what I found. The drum I found on line has flat-bottomed parts that look like cartridges that follow behind the loaded rounds. Thanks!
