I purchased a NOS Lyman 66A thinking it would work on my Pedersoli 1886 with the pre-drilled holes for the 66WB. Hole to hole is correct, but the vertical hole location from the top of the receiver is off about .120". Was thinking of having the holes on the sight base re-drilled to match the hole location of the receiver. Any thoughts?

Put a receiver sight on our Japchester 86 after making it into a 50 Alaskan and no regrets. A receiver sight properly installed will outlast all of us. Ever wonder why there are few tang sights on African Rifles ?
We have tang sights on rifles. Make nice range sighting devices. Good for popping critters that generally do not view the hunter as lunch. But when it comes to a dangerous game rifle that long thin slender sticking up in the air stem is not the sturdiest item it could be. They are good for what they do. But a receiver sight is far more robust to taking a wack and doing it's job.

I am havng the holes relocated on the sight. Dicussed it with my smith and he felt it the best option and i agree. Holes will be covered anyway. Thanks for the advise.
Loctite that sight down they like to come lose. I have a 95 marlin .45-70 and sight came lose twice first time I put it on just screwed it on put back on with regular loctite came lose again went to stronger loctite all so put some on between receiver and sight and de- grease all metal contact points.Good shooting.
No reason not to cut new holes in the sight base. It's your best option.
I had a similar problem trying to fit some vintage steel aperture sights to Browning 71 & 1886 rifles. They weren't out as much your Pedersoli and managed to trim some of the base to fit properly.
Modify the sight, not the gun.
Tang sights bother me because that's where my thumb goes lol.

Yes. I cannot justify modifying the rifle. I think modifying the base is the best bet
Right decision. Did the same thing to a Browning Hunter sight I put on my Shiloh Sharps.
