I'll vouch for that. I use to have a T/C Cherokee in 32cal and when I first started with it I used something around 30grs of ffg black and it was devastating on squirrels. Finally backed off to around to something like 15- 20grs and got a more harmonious outcome. That was with patched round ball. Never shot the little maxi-ball. Finally sold after T/C quit making them and couldn't get spare parts for them easily. Saw one over on gunbroker or gunsamerica used but like new (supposedly never fired) for $650 plus, think I gave $180 for mine when they first came out. Still have a Seneca 45 and renegade 50.

I believe I’m getting somewhere in the neighborhood of 1600-1800 FPS with that round. It’s very accurate so I always try for a head shot. Three of these were hit in the head or neck so there was little meat damage. I took too long a shot(120 yds) and there was quite a bit of damage. Sure was fun.

Cast works great. Left picture is a .22 Hornet using cast. Right is a .30-30 with what I think is the Lee soupcan and five grains of Clays my Dad loaded.

Many years ago,a friend in Fl built a sweet single shot in.30 carbine using an old 12ga.Loaded it down to very mild 32-20.Tree rats by the bushel fell to that rifle. Not to mention rabbits. He used cast boolits only in that rifle. Was a stubbed setup.Very accurate with a good peep sight.Easy 3/4" at 50 yds all day long.Pan fried with gravy and fresh baked biskits.YUMMMMMMMMMMMMMM.Only thing better is MORE.
    Good luck.Have fun.Be safe.

I used a 92’ winchester rifle made in 06’ this year. 32/20 cast and pc’d.
    No complaints.

.32 S&W or the long version loaded with 80-100 grain cast bullets have been taking a number of squirrels for me this year. A couple of .38 WC's have done their job as well.

38 specials in a rifle or revolver for me. A 148 or 158 grain cast loafing along at under 1000 FPS produces no meat damage other than the hole it makes and takes rabbits and squirrels easily. From what I have seen, to the bullet it is almost like the critter isn't there. Far less mess than HP 22s. I ave even taken to using round nose bullets when I use a .22.

Well played, putting together a load for my relined "shooter" 92 of similar vintage.

I used to shoot my 45 caliber T/C Hawken for squirrels. Once, while hunting with my oldest son I heard a shot and a terrible rattling noise. As wild hogs were starting to populate the area I went to where my son was and asked what happened. He said he thought he dropped his ramrod somewhere, as he couldn't find it after the last shot. He said he shot at a squirrel and points to a huge tree. There, pinned to the tree was half of a squirrel tail and part of his ramrod.

Found a good Unique load in '93. Never have put together a pointy nosed wheel weight load for it.

I really like those old Savage 23s. Any caliber they made them in would be fine, but I'd especially like a .25-20.

I always used a 22 rifle but my dad used a 30 carbine and with a solid round nose bullet it just punched a hole through them and didn't spoil much meat.I find this to be true shooting them with a 45C in a standard load.
