Sorry for the basic question, but i got to start somewhere...

First off, I'm new to metallic. I've been loading shotahell for a good while.
So, I got a box of cast bullets super cheap. They're coated with something. Question is, do I use cast load data ? I'm assuming so, but you know that is...
Also, does the coating take the place of lube?
    Thanks.

Yes and yes and maybe. The coating takes the time lace of the lube . As far as what data to use the Lyman cast bullets handbook is the grail. You didn't say caliber , if it's gas checked and coated I'd try jacketed data starting low and working up. Remember though cast and jacketed are different beasts; for one thing you'll need to pay more attention to case mouth belling and crimp. What kind me of coating like a powder coat,hi-tek?
What caliber and what operating range your looking for would help.

Yes , I would use data for cast boolits and no lube is needed for properly powder coated boolits.

It looks like a powder coating that wasn't allowed to flow and cure. Smash one of em with a hammer and see if it's a good coating, or they'll need some more work.

Yes cast load data. That is a powder coated coating. Works as lube, bad job on those ones but should work. Might need to run them through a lee sizer

Here's a photo of one I whacked a couple times and a un-whacked one. Click image for larger version.

I picked the coating off the edge with my fingernail. I hit it head on and on the side.
Weighed and measured ten of them. .451" and 217.6 grains average.

Thanks all for the help. I'm planning on loading plinkers for a Redhawk in .45 Colt. Like sub 800 fps. Does the coating look like it'll serve for such a purpose?

    Thanks again for you patients.

451? Someone must have already sized them cause that PC sure looks thick,do you know the size of your redhawk ;as in have you slugged the bore;no one cleft but 451 is on the small side for .45 colt, all my 45 acps use at least 4525,

I borrowed this from the pics gallery.... but his is how you smash one. Get out the "sludge" hammer.
If it doesn't chip or flake off.... she's good to shoot.

the coating takes place of the lube.

    that coating is highly suspect.

I assume you bought them that way and don't cast. I would tumble them in LLA if you have some and shoot. Find another supplier.
    Whatever!
