mold for 500gr 470 nitro express

I just picked up a 470 nitro express and want to start casting for it eventually.

Any recommendation for a 500gr mold? Thanks.

Whats the groove dia? You will need that before you can consider anything.............but if the groove is something like 480,the a cheap mold will be the Lee 400gn....good enough for plinking without breaking the bank.

I'm sure Tom at Accurate can cut you whatever you would like.

You may want to re-think 500 grainers, getting them to regulate in a double is not easy. I have problems with correct weight for cartridge bullets. Went lighter and got them to regulate much easier. I'm using a NOE bullet mold I suspect was for 480 Ruger pistols. Shoots great and doesn't beat you to death. Sized a batch of 475 this evening, got two boxes of 470 N.E. on the bench to be loaded Sunday. Going to be warm enough tomorrow and Saturday to get some sailing in. Sunday they're calling for a high of 10F. Needs to be 15F for me to sail anymore. Geezerville is creeping in!

Pretty sure that 500g is the factory regulating load.

With cast you usually can't drive them as fast, lighter boolits just seem easier to regulate than correct weight for cartridge. Plus, if you're just punching paper, they're way easier on your shoulder and your lead stash. It's worked for me in 450 N.E., 450/400 N.E. and 400/350 N.E. in addition to the 470 N.E.

Good luck, shooting the boomers with light loads is a blast.

I was also thinking of some trailboss loads. I dont expect them to come close to regulating at 500gr. Maybee lighter ...

Maybee? Maybee? Named for Abraham Maybee in 1873. The town I was raised in. Just a bit of trivia to close out the year

In the 450 the 500's were fun to shoot but I had much better luck with the lighter boolits, wish someone made a gas check Lyman 457122. It would be perfect.
