    Steel target (resetable)

Yesterday, while shopping at the Local Menards superstore.
They had the large caliber pistol Steel target on closeout for $12.99.
Heck, there must be $12 worth of steel in that thing.
    I surely can't make it for $12
I should have bought them all, but I just bought one.

    Attachment 209706

    Discription:

    Model Number: JLB-ST-HRT01
Sniper .44 Auto reset Shooting Target allows you to practice shooting without the hassle of constantly resetting your target. Once you shoot both hanging targets, shoot the resetting target on top to allow your targets to drop back down so you can begin again. The solid steel design is durable and portable enough to take with you anywhere. 3.5" target size. For up to .45 ACP, .44 Special
I'll report about this thing, after I take it to the range.

Thanks! I will stop by one of the Menards tomorrow when I go to Rochester for my yearly checkup at Mayo to see if they have one or two there.

My older brother left one of those here to practice on . Well after several years of use it's almost got divots in the steel from pistol rounds and light gallery loads from the aught six . I think brother might have hit it once or twice in the last ten years ( no , he doesn't come out to practice very much , can't seem to shame him into it ) .

After I read this thread today, I checked the supply at my local store and picked up one of the pistol targets and one of the 22 targets(9.99).
I'll need to try them out soon.

I'm envious. We don't have a Menards. That is a great deal.

Picked up a 10" Rifle Gong Target with Stand from Cabella's in Kalispell today for $59.00 - they retail for $99.00.

Not sure if it is a local overstock sale, or if they are reduced at all locations.

There are now only 2 left in Menards Rochester ( North store) as of about 45 minutes ago. I bought just one & left the others there for anyone else who might want to get one.

I also bought 2 of the "rimfire" 5 target ones they had for $9.99. ( 3 left of those) I plan to use one for me & the family & the other is going to go to a friend of mine who lets me use his private pistol range on occasion. I reckon it would be a nice Christmas present & a Thanks You! to him for him & his family as well.

Thanks again JonBinGlencoe, for the "Heads Up" about these deals!

[ Also found a pound of 2400($25+/-) at a LGS while there. I am happy about that too. ]

Well, it didn't stand up to the mighty 41 Mag with a 196gr WC

I went to the range this morning.
pounded the stakes of this new target into the frozen ground.

First, I shot a 45acp semi-auto at 60 feet, The targets would spin like a windmill when hit and made some noise as it hit the bar that it was suppose to catch on. I'm thinking this will work much better with a less powerful gun and/or load, so I'm thinking I should just stick with 38 spl and 9mm.

I also brought the Mod 57 along, First shot hit HARD, near center (upper center) of the plate...and killed it
I suspect the added energy transfer of a WC helped a little. The load was 7.6gr Red Dot.

As to the steel, The 45acp didn't make the tiniest of a dent in the plate.
The 41 Mag put a good indentation, maybe .020" deep.

Those things are only rated up to 45 ACP and 44 special.
Magnum loads are too much for it.
