Swedish military 30 cavity mold circa 1800

This mold came from a Swedish auction site. Not an ebay-type site but a high end auction site.

The auction description is in Swedish but its not too hard to figure out what it says.

Being a boolit casting forum I figured youse guys would appreciate such a contraption. I've never seen a gang mold constructed this way.

KULFORM, 1800-talets början, i stål för 30 st rundkulor med kaliber 18 mm
circa 1800, 30 stuck (each) round ball caliber 18mm... or close to it.

That's a big honkin' mold as 18mm is .70 caliber. I may have to have a Swedish friend verify that.

That's in really good shape. Did you buy it? Looks like it just needs some Bullshop plate lube and a hotplate.

    Hi Dutchman

Nice looking mould you got there The 1815 musket had a cal of 18,55 (.73) give and take some and i know of atleast 4 other muskets that would use balls of that size

    LOL...

    For a horse maybe....

A country doc I knew long time ago told me that human suppository moulds were always ~about~ .30 caliber or less for obvious reasons. Anything .30/7mm and above was usually reserved for politicians and farm animals.

But this one isn't a suppository mould for sure. Suppository moulds usually share some common characteristics such as 7 cavities (for 7 days of treatment) brass construction, and no sprue plate. They are also almost always spitzer shaped, again for obvious reasons. Some of the modern ones now offer ball shapes, but I've never seen a period one in "ball". And lastly, the handles are sort of a giveaway. Those leather pads are safety devices to prevent burns from lead, not wax at ~100F~ or so.

About every month or so I get an email wanting to know "What kind of bullet mould this is". 80% of the time its an old apothecary suppository mould.

If each of those cavities is about .7" in diameter.... that mold with handles must be like 3 feet long!

I'm kinda surprised there was no Carl Gustafs stads Gevärsfaktori marking on it. Given the size of the boolits it seems to be a huge mold. Pretty cool.

Thank you to Math & utk. I can get through some Swedish as long as it doesn't stray far from military or firearms words. Feel free to correct me whenever you see a mistake.
