as much as i like shooting the factory stuff it is running low in these parts and is corrosive as hell. i was pulling them down and bumping the bullets up to .310 and loading the 86gr FMJ up with unique and putting them back together. i was up to 6.4gr unique and the action would still not go back far enough to strip another round off the mag even though the lyman manual said that was a max load for that bullet weight..they was probably keeping loads low as it was also the same data used for the 30 Mauser. been looking for just 7.62 tokarev data but every manual i come across uses it interchangeably with the 30 mauser and looks to be downloaded big time.

You might find this interesting over at Maryland Shooters. My apologies if posting the thread here is not appropriate:

Current issue of The Fouling Shot has a detailed article on the 7.62x25 with load and velocity data. If interested PM me and I can send you a copy. Author there uses 7.4 grains of AutoComp to match factory velocity with 86-grain Hornady SP, 90-grain XTP or Accurate 31-087B.

A powder that worked well in my 7.62x25 (I no longer have) was Accurate #9 with a 90grXTP Hornady bullet. Similar to 2400, but cleaner burning.

i don't have any those powders and have a pile of unique.. i been trying it with upwards of 93gr bullet but can't get the thing to function the action enough to eject or load another round even with the listed max loading. i don't know if it is just not a fast enough powder for the CZ-52 or the listed load is meant for the 30 mauser and is downloaded or what..the max listed load for the 93gr FMJ is 6.3gr and that yields a 1303fps.. ya would think it would function it and be fast enough being it is a faster powder than the AA#9..

i know it isn't the bullets not sealing as i slugged the bore and it is .310 and that is what im sizing my bullets to. brass fits the chamber nicely.. thing got me stumped and im scared to go above the listed loading as i do not have a chrono so im kind of in the dark at what velocity im already putting out...

well i found a load and bullet that will function the CZ enough to eject and strip another round off the mag.. i settled on a 100gr hollow point and 6.4gr unique. it is enough to function like it should but not so much that the primer is excessively flattened out..

according to Quickload software it is around 1,351fps and 34,047 C.I.P.

As well 13gr of Win 296 and a 90gr HP Hornady out of a unissued Polish TT33 pretty well made a quarter sized group at 15 yards off a sandbag/ bench.

some new experimentation. 90gr aluminum jacketed round nose soft point. will see what they do tomorrow. i have used aluminum jackets in my 9mm carbine a few times, and they were devastatingly violent with their expansion.

used some old Hercules Unique and started out low and increased a little till it would eject and feed properly. according to quickload and the listed data i should be picking pieces out of my head with the load i used.. dam listed loads would not function it, would not even eject a spent case. im not sure if the Unique being old slowed the burn down or that the new Alliant Unique is a faster formulation or what. but the bullet just touches the powder with a seated bullet where it starts to function the slide and feed a new cartridge. and it still does not have the recoil of the factory 85gr ball. i know that the old loading data showed a max of 6.8gr Unique with a 90gr bullet and the new says that 6.2 is maximum.

but i did the math and according to Lee the VMD of unique is around 0.10920. i took the .8cc dipper volume i come up with that would actually function the thing and it come out to around 7.3gr of unique. according to all the published data i have come across and quickload this gives me a pressure of 52,000Psi and says it is a compression load when it is not a compression load. but that is why im thinking that the old powder was slower than the new unique powders. they changed something as all the cans of Hercules Unique i have are this way.

but it is like the cast 168gr subsonic .308 i load, according to all the data the round should be running at 1,185fps,well above speed of sound, but the loads im using are below 1,100fps. it is a mystery.

the JSP i had would go in about 8 inches b4 they come to a stop with only moderate deformation. these at a faster loading go in a max of about 5 inches and create a hole you could drop a golf ball in and have room around it. transfers all the energy in 4 inches. not gonna over penetrate the bad guy and should make a mess..

but you would think the feed ramp would deform the tip of the bullet being it is lead. the way it feeds, it never touches the lead tip.
