    6.5 Swede

Don't exactly know what I have and looking for answers. Carl Gustaf sporterized 6.5 Swede (I'm pretty sure) with an 18 1/2" bbl. Bolt handle turned down. Receiver sight, floor plate, and bolt knob all carry the last 3 digits of serial number. Front sight is a Redfield, so obviously a replacement, but the rest appears original. Bbl does not look to have been cut down, but whoever did the work was a craftsman so that could be possible. Cocks on closing, 2 stage trigger, and 90 degree bolt lift. Do I have an 1894 carbine (turned down bolt handle) with a receiver sight or an 1896 with a shortened bbl or??? Not capable of posting pictures but am reasonably fluent with the English language.

The 94 Swede had an 18 1/2 inch barrel with a turned down bolt, while the M38 had a 24 inch barrel and a turned down bolt. There were quite a few of the 94’s that were sporterized “back then”. Could be either but probably is a ‘94. Just a guess, though.

You have a nice rifle none the less!

Serial numbers will tell the tale. Contact "Dutchman" by pm and he could probably tell you what it is and when it was made. james

    Serial #

Serial number is 93146. I was mistaken about the rear receiver sight being numbered to the gun. It was actually the bolt release numbered 146. Closer inspection indicates once had a barrel mounted sight.

    6.5 x 55 is a GREAT rifle cartridge!
I don't paint bullets. I like Black Rifle Coffee. Sacred cows are always fair game. California is to the United States what Syria is to Russia and North Korea is to China/South Korea/Japan--a Hermit Kingdom detached from the real world and led by delusional maniacs, an economic and social basket case sustained by "foreign" aid so as to not lose military bases.

Dutchman seals it. Does yours have the little extension sleeve on the end of the barrel? Those imported before 1968 (GCA) generally do. My sporter does. What a lovely rifle.

The database at my website reflects firearm serial numbers collected by myself over a number of years. They reflect the high and low and whatever others were reported to me.
