I put Skinner Express sights on my Henry carbine and with my cast handloads I was hitting 3 1/2 inches high at 50 yards with the rear sight all the way down. My load is a 115 grain bullet running 1500 fps I ordered a new front sight from Skinner that was .750 tall. The factory gold bead sight measured .560 from the bottom of dovetail to top of sight.
I got it installed and took it to the range today to zero it in. I set the rear sight up 3 turns and was about 6 inches low at 25 yards. I started filing down the front and shooting till I got it close at 25 yards and then moved to 75 yards. It was very close to zeroed at 75 as well. I had taken off right at .125 to get it set where I wanted it. It looks like I could have just ordered the .650 sight and not had to file at all.
In my opinion the new front sight gives a better sight picture with the express sight than the factory gold bead did.
