A nice deer with the contender

.44 mag contender with the super 16 barrel. 240 grain Lyman hollowpoint cast with 50/50 alloy ( WW's/pure lead). 18 grains of 2400. Neck shot at about 30 yards. Took her opening morning Monday.

Good going! I have one with a 14" barrel, but haven't done any load development for it.

Rusty, I like your sling. I'm still using a piece of nylon rope. Were your boolits water dropped or air cooled? Did you get much expansion?

Congratulations ! Does the heart good to be able to take home the fruit of the labor. I trust many a meal is enjoyed and the tale recounted with happiness.

Inspirational,I've been gunning for a corn cruncher with that exact set up but have only seen small does and bucks smaller than the one I already got with bow. Thank you for posting assuming with the neck shot it was bang flop? I'd like more details on your ingenious sling .

A neck shot on a deer that size with a 44 magnum, the boolit might be in the next county!
Got a .22 .30 .32 .357 .38 .40 .41 .44 .45 .480 or .500 S&W cylinder that needs throats honed? 9mm, 10mm/40S&W, 45 ACP pistol barrel that won't "plunk" your handloads? 480 Ruger or 475 Linebaugh cylinder that needs the "step" reamed to 6° 30min chamfer? Great shot , still waiting to use my 357 Mag. tender on one . A sling is the best way I found to carry them .

That sling is actually a leather one ... I think it is an Unkle Mikes ... made for a muzzleloader !! It wraps nicely around the buttstock and laces up from the bottom for a snug fit. The front of the sling just goes over the barrel and it has leather whangs that cinch it up so it stays in place. I sewed some advantage camo coverings for the barrel and stock to cover and shine the deer might see. Never found that bullet afterward. And yes Nagantguy it was a bang and she fell over instantly. ... kicked a few times and that was the end. A fast and clean taking of the deer. I've had one steak so far and it was great. Tomorrow is meatloaf ...

Hornady308: They were aircooled right from the mould. Since they were HP'd, I wanted them to expand if they needed to. The mould was a Lyman 429244 that was hollowpointed by our own listmember Buckshot. I couldn't be more pleased with this HP boolit. Kudo's to Buckshot for his excellent work !! The proof in in my freezer ....

Thank you for the reply, I just got a new contender forend here from a trade to a very member and a fellow Marine !anyhow the new forend has a sling swivel already attached so now I have another option cause I'm not crazy about the way she rides in the chest rig I'm currently using.

Tony's Stocks makes a really nice forend for Contenders. Nice and wide and also long. Great for shooting off sandbags. All you need to do is ask to have a Bipod/Sling Stud installed.

Nice deer! I have about 2 more weeks until Alternative Weapons Season here in Missouri.
I will need to decide between my 6.5 x 30 JDJ (6.5 x 30-30 AI), 35 Bullberry, or 357 Maximum Contender Pistol barrels.
    I have a NOE 360-180 mold for the 35's.

    Bob
