With all the $20 or less Carbines mentioned here, I guess I overpaid, $75, for my bring back Underwood.
ill give you a hundred for it sight unseen. lol to be honest i paid a whole bunch more for my rockola, but every time i look at other rockola's, the price just keeps climbing.

Well I just went and looked at the Winchester again. It's a very late 7.2 million serial number receiver. It's got an 8-51 Springfield replacement barrel and the old style non-bayonet lug barrel band. The rest of the parts look original. It's a cool gun and I've never even seen a 7 million numbered Winchester. I'll have to think about that one overnight.

And bringing all the other manufacturers along with them. Nicely written piece, and good reference pages, here on who made what and the numbers they made:

    Timely forum entry!
Had a lady come into our bookstore today asking me if I could help her with pricing some guns her husband had left her upon his death.
22 pistol(Ruger), 38 Snub nose(S&W?), 22 rifle with a scope and a rifle the army sent home for her USMC husband when he was wounded, lost and considered KIA on Peleliu.
M1 carbine as original as I guess one could be.
They packed up everything that appeared to be his and sent it homeward.
She said it was months before he would even look at it.
She said it is real good condition-I haven't seen it.
What would be a the ball park value from this patchy description. Only documentation I know of is she does have a copy of his discharge papers.
I haven't personally observed a legitimate bring back in years/decades let alone see one sell.
    Any thoughts on value.
OP sorry for the off track question.
    Thanks.

If she has paperwork on that rifle then value could be significant. Otherwise, it's sadly just a story worth nothing. Value then will be based on manufacturer, condition, and "correct" parts.
