Lead shot value

So I was at work Friday and there is about five gallon of shot that I could buy. Looks like about number seven size. I have more lead on hand right now then I will ever use but I see this shot and I start getting excited. Got to be 200 pounds. Any idea of the value of this or what it would be good for other than loading shotgun shells? Thanks Dave

$30/ 25lbs is a good price. I sometimes find $1/lb deals but not very often. 5gal plastic buckets weigh around 3lbs.

it can be used for casting after you melt it down and clean the gunk off.
I pay 22$ a bag for Lawrence or northwest 8 or 7-1/2.
if it's in a bucket it is reclaimed shot and some guy's will re-shoot it, many won't.
when I get it I mix it in with new shot and up my pellet count.

Me too, running me 33$ a bag, last I bought, reclaim is 1$ per lb! I'd buy a bunch at 22.

22 a bag and 4-4 dollar shooting tickets is how they get you.
that makes it 38 bucks with 4 rounds of trap or skeet.
still cheaper than buying it anywhere in town around here.

We have a local scrap yard that will pay $1 pound for lead shot still in the bag. Try to buy some from him though and your looking at $40 bag.

I bought my shotmaker from a fella that had better then a ton of #8 he'd made. Biggest part stored in a 30gal steel drum and the rest in buckets. I told him how I'd made a tumbler with a washing machine motor and tumbled with graphite I'd found at the flea market.

I have about 500 pounds that I bought at $5 a 25 lb bag back in the 60's. It is no longer in the bags as they started to rot. It is now in quart jars. I load some shotgun shells with it every now and then.

This is probably reclaimed as there is some paper particles mixed in. Maybe target or wadding. I did not know it was possible to reclaim shot.

I remember back in the 1970`s when our gun club had the skeet/trap fields mined for the first time since about 1935 when the club was formed. It took the guy 3 days as I recall to do the inital. It was about a month later that a semi truck pulled into the club with wire tied canvas bags of the seperated from dirt shot that was washed and graphited. Club members could buy a 20 lb. +/- bag for .50 cents a lb. I took 10 bags not really knowing what to expect. The shot sizes were mixed from #9 down to #2. The trailer emptied fairly fast for the amount that it held. Never heard the figures of total lead take or the guys commission or the clubs cash take from the sales. I just know that I had many a shot tube jam up on my Mec`s, but I used it all up since then. The canvas bags made good sand bags when empty and sand filled then stitched up.Robert

Yep I bought bags of shot in the early 70's on sale at $6 a bag. I bought around 2 ton and it was shot off 180 bags by 1978! Shot goes fast at 1 1/8 oz. per shot.

The last shot I bought was thirty cent a pound. Keep in mind melting shot is a little more work and there is a lot of loss do to the coating on shot. Other wise it works fine .( last I bought was 4years ago so take the price with a grain of salt)
