Even the cold can't wipe that smile from your face! Future note- always include your gun in the photo because it gets half credit! Beautiful buck.

Tyguy95 very glad for you being able to get back in the big game hunting after a few years without. You did it up right. Kind of gets in a person's blood. Mine was a six point and considerably smaller than yours at 125#, but no complaining here. Congratulations on a good hunt.

I have one of those rifles, it was re-barreled with a Remington barrel in 308.
AIRC it actually shot pretty good.
I stripped the sights off it for one of my lever guns, maybe I should dig around in the corner it sits in and re-visit it.

    that's a nice buck anywhere.

You did a first rate job on the skull mount too!! I hope you got the meat as that is a big part of it for me at least.

Daggum, that is a nice old big daddy.
Sure makes our little Coues deer look even smaller, haha.

Very nice. What method did you use? I hear the beetles they use for this purpose work real well. I did one a few years ago on a big one I found. We boiled what was left off using Borax and a big steel buck and campfire. Worked well, but took a long time and had to be careful not to get the antlers in the water. Some peroxide on all the exposed bone for a few days then exposure to sunlight for a day or so degreased it and made it snowy white. I kind of like the European mounts.

I was told borax/bleach will speed up bone breakdown. I cut as much of as I could then boiled in water and dawn. Cleaned off as much meat as I could then boiled again in water and hydrogen peroxide
