Computer video download

I have a question for you. What do you run for a computer? I got a Chromebook 14 recently, and can't download video to it from my sd card. So, I'm stuck with going to the library and using their antique windows machine, that takes forever to download the video.
Definitely need to do something else, preferably not too expensive.

I have never had a problem, either with a hard drive, or using network. We use our chromebox for video streaming using a Windows network, though I have downloaded files to the Chromebox using a USB hard drive. Chrome OS is designed to be used over the web using a cloud service. That might speed up your download, but otherwise you should be able to use Files Chrome app. It might be the video format is not accepted by your Chromebook, I use MP4. If you are using a windows file format that could be the problem.

I already checked, the Chromebook 14 doesn't support this, with no time line for having one available.
I'm leaning real strongly towards a Dell Inspiron 15 3000.

Try this, get your file address from files, paste it in a chrome tab, and open. Open options, and click download.

Nope, that doesn't work. I've been working on this for two months, and it can't be done, according to tech webpages.

If the computer has an sd card slot (and it isnt broken) you could bring up the command line and mount it manually.

I repeat, Chromebook 14 will not support video download from SD cards. This platform runs off of apps and cloud. There has been no program developed for handling video downloads from a camera card.
Looking for an alternative computer, not a work around for this one. I've been informed by computer geek friends, that no Chrome, or Notepad will support doing what I need to do.

Get a cheep outdated laptop and install linux on it. Or get a refurbished computer. I got my wife one for $99 so she can check her email.

They lied to you, I do it regularly on mine. Files app has no problem with downloading/copying from one drive to the system drive, as long as there is available space. Sounds like you have some hardware problems with your machine.

Considering the small size of the drives on Chrome OS machines it is better to copy your files to a independent drive, and stream them when needed. We are watching Godfather as I type this on a Chrome OS system. You may need to add the media player if it is not already on your machine. But Chrome OS will stream using the Chrome browser.

There are things that are more difficult in chrome than other systems, but streaming, and downloading is not one of them. Chrome OS is a refined Linux OS, but uses less memory so it does less, and can operate on a small solid state drive.

I would suggest getting a hootoo, and using it with a drive large enough size for video. Then your files can be copied to the drive, and retrieved without affecting the memory on your chromebook. Think of the hootoo as your private cloud. All hootoo functions can be accessed through the Chrome browser. My wife uses a hootoo in her car to access the over 700 movies on her portable hard drive.

This is what the tech site tells me that needs done. Not acceptable. I don't want a separate device.

Plug your storage device into another computer.
Upload the files from the device to a cloud file system, such as Google Drive.
Open your Chromebook, then open Google Drive to view the files.

Rick....I have had 6 Dell computers and have had great success and perfect customer service from them. I usually look around and but one reasonably priced by getting the last generation and not the latest.
