    7.65 Argentine 200g cast data

Anyone here load cast 7.65 Argentine? My bullets are 206 grains water quenched, gas checked and sized to .313 and should be hard enough.

I will be shooting mainly up to 500 yards and would like a solid mid range load that doesn't drop so fast like the reduced unique loads.

I'm due for powder and reload 6.5 Swede to
So I was thinking Reloader 22 somewhere in the 28 to 32 grain range? I don't care to use fillers.

303 British data is supposed to transfer over well.

I have shot 45 grains of RL-22, but with a lighter bullet then the one you mentioned. It was a 180 grain. Velocity from a 29 inch barrel was 2167 fpr. With 45 grains of RL-19 same bullet velocity was 2192 fps. With 45 grains of RL-15 with same bullet weight velocity was 2634 fps. For me the RL-22 shot the better groups.

I use the 314299 with good success in my ‘09 Arg carbine. Too lazy to go look up the load right now.

I'd appreciate any load info you may have. I'll probably buy RL22 since its so versatile and gives good velocity with lower pressures.

RL-22 is slow, slower then 4831. I got it to work for me, but I didn't use low charges of it.

Thanks for the input, I cross referenced 3 books with 303 British and 30-40 Krag data using jacketed 200 grain bullets. Looks like H4350 might be more useful with all 3 showing approx 2000fps with 40 grains.

The benefit is its listed under 6.5 Swede with good velocity and pressure figures to boot.

I've not tried 200gr so far in that caliber. Old Ideal 311413 (176gr) with 18gr of IMR4198 gave me 1 moa results at 100y. No load developpement, nothing. This was the first try.

i shoot the lyman 311299 sized .314 over 22-24 imr 4198. no problem hitting the 24 inch gong at 500 meters, out of either my full sized gun or my engineer's carbine. 500 meters is pretty good for a cast bullet. we have a 1000 yd range here in south Tucson, but i'm not that good. no point in wasting good lead, but i'm sure the rifle and load would be accurate enough. like they say, it's not the car, it's the nut behind the wheel

Just pull down a 300 Savage load and use it. Or a 308 load and drop it 15% to start.

Thanks for the data! I happen to have a pound of h4198 I'll probably try some though it's a little fast.

I know you said you don't like to use fillers but if you want a decent load to get you to 500 yards with the 311299 you need to push 1900 fps +/-. The best load for that is 27-28 gr 4895 with a 3/4 - 1 gr Dacron filler.

That's what I use with excellent results in my M91 and M1909 rifles.

Normally I`m not a person that has a beef about naming a powder used in a loading. However, just saying 4895 when there are several brands of this powder could lead to a problem, perhaps. The same holds true with 4831 or 4350 and probably others I can`t think of right now.Robert

Doesn't lead to any problems with any of the different flavors of 4895 with in the low pressure recommended 27 - 28 gr load. If one were pushing max end loads with jacketed bullets then, yes, there very well could be a problem. Keeping a 200 gr cast bullet in the 1900 +/- fps range with any flavor 4895 will pose no problems. The same can be said for the flavors of 4831 and 4350......the pressures giving 1900 +/- fps will also be far below any dangerous or problematic range in the 7.65 Argentine cartridge.

The point was to use whatever flavor the OP might have or can get and load his cast bullet to 1900 +/- fps. It will take 27 - 28 gr of whatever flavor 4895 he uses plus the Dacron filler to obtain 1900 +/- fps. That is based on my own use of pre "Extreme" H4895, "Extreme" H4895, 3 different lots of milsurp 4895 and IMR 4895 in the 7.65 Argentine cartridge with the Lyman 314299 and the NOE copy.

Larry, what were your results without filler?

Ask member 9.63x62AL what he thinks about using Dacron.

The 27-28 gr of 4895(never used AA 2495, but have used canister H and I and surplus from two tear down vendors)is a good one with dacron, without dacron the ES run high from inconsistent ignition. I believe improper use of dacron, ie a wad or not enough to completely fill the space between powder and bullet base lightly compressed, has resulted in ringed chambers, but never when used correctly.

As mentioned without the Dacron filler the 4895 becomes very position sensitive with large ES and inconsistent ignition. You can increase the charge of 4895 until the ES becomes manageable and the pressure rises enough so the ignition is consistent but by then the velocity is too high for best accuracy as the RPM Threshold is exceeded.

What you mean is that you exceed the pressure limit of the alloy.

Makes sense to me, I prefer still to avoid fillers and will go pick up some 4350 or RL22.
