41 mag 230gn CB

I just got some 230 gn keiths from leadheads and cant find any loads for this particular boolit. I have some 2400 on hand and will be getting some AA#9 soon. I'm shooting a ruger blackhawk. Have any of you guys used these boolits with these two powders? BTW I just found this site and am a new member. Thanks in advance for your imput.

I use a Keith ww cast 220 grainer in my 41 (657 Smith), but I just run 7.5 grains of Unique in it. I would just take the start load for a 210 jacketed bullet and work up from there. Even that hard LeadHeads boolit will be easier to push than most j-bullets that weigh in at 210. IMO I would use a standard primer with 2400 and #9 as well.

Good morning This is a Great caliber !
I would go on line to Accurate websight and look at their suggestions for #9... Start at the bottom and load 5 increasing at half grain increments ... if this bullet fills the throats and grips the lands. Hard bullets can be just that... too hard.
One of my .41 Blackhawks needed a cylinder throat job to get things equal...

Used to shoot a 10" DW 741 for sillywhets and had excellent results with IMR4227 under both a 215 gr SWC and a 245 gr TC.

I have a 6 1/2" bbl .41 mag Blackhawk and .41 mag Super Blackhawk Bisley Hunter. 19.0 grains of IMR 4227 has been very accurate with a 240 gn Keith (start below that and work up of course). Also H110 and 2400 have performed well.

I use only 296 and AA#9 and only have .41s --with the 230 LH 17gr of AA#9 will be about 1260-1270 from my .5.5" Redhawk have used 18 with easy extraction MV is 1330 - 1350 -- I can go higher but will not if every thing shoots well -- I use wwlp except in my 41/44 (.41GNR)
then I use Fed 155 -- I use the same 18 gr Load with 210 jhp and also with my 226 Lyman Keith type mold(410459)-- -- 18 gr of AA#9 and the 210 Gold Dot was 1380 again from 5.5 Rhawk --hope this helps

GLynn41, Thanks for the info.I've not been able to find any load data for the 230 boolit specificly.I've been using 220 and 240 grn cast data trying to work up a load. My local cabelas and sportsmans warehouse have been out of AA#9. I went to the range today and shot 16 and 16.5grns of 2400 and accuracy was sub par. I did however find a nice midrange load of 10 grns of hs6, accuracy was good. thanks for your imput. As soon as I get some AA#9 I'll put your data to use . Thanks again, WDP

WDP, I shoot the 220 gr. 410459 Keith bullet with 19.0 gr. H-110 in several .41 Mags. It is a good enough full-house load for me, and I use wheel weight / range scrap mix for alloy, which I would call medium soft. Leadheads are hard alloy if I recall. Don't know what the difference means in terms of accuracy.

I've used 7.8gr Unique with the 230 Keith Leadhead with good accuracy out of my 6.5" Blackhawk. It is a target load and comfortable to shoot.

If you want a full power load I also use H110. I've used as much as 23gr of H110 but backed off to either 22gr or 22.5gr for top loads. If you want to try H110 I wouldn't go lighter then 20gr to avoid pressure spikes. I seated the bullets to a OAL of 1.67".

The 22.5gr load was also accurate out of a Marlin Carbine. It didn't like the light target loads, but did much better with full power H110 loads. Just one of those things...
