Tagged out, not a cast bullet

I kind of wanted to use my .30-06 when the rifle season opened, but can only buy two tags this year and finished the season with the crossbow this morning. Big bodied deer, quartered and on ice. Should have plenty of meat this year.

Good job! Meat in the freezer and some good times in the field. Hard to beat.

I'm having hard times drawing my longbow this year so I'm using a crossbow too. I haven't got one with it yet but hope to be right there with a successful hunt like you.

Nice job Rich! I was hunting with buckshot Saturday...no deer but a great day nonetheless. Turned a big boy coyote inside out from 30 yds.

Great buck! Two years ago I tagged out on bucks during archery season and could only shoot a doe with cast. Was worried sick I'd see the buck of a life time while doing so during rifle season!

The way the seasons work here, the odds for seeing a big buck are strongly in the bow hunters favor. Can't hunt with a gun of any kind during the rut. I'll get my oldest son out opening day of firearms season next week. He hasn't deer hunted since before he left for the Marine Corps almost six years ago. I'm pretty sure he'll get one if I can put him where I want to, but it probably won't be a big buck.

That said, the two biggest bucks I've killed were with my cast in a Hawken in September during our muzzle loader season so it's not beyond the realm of possibility.
