Have you tried using 357 magnum brass for your lower power loads? That 1/10 of an inch additional jump from the 38 Spl brass can't be helping much. A lot has been written above about the basics. Are you loading all 6 chambers? Load 4 or 5, spin the cylinder before you insert it. That way you won't know if you have a cartridge under the hammer or not. This can reveal a lot about form and follow through.

I realize that I have good days and bad days. That is why I take more than one gun to the range, so I can tell if it is me or the gun.
If I am having issues with a gun, I follow my 3 trip rule. If, after three trips to the range and doing due diligence with proper reloads, it still won't shoot and shows no promise that things will improve, it goes away. Life is too short to fight with inaccurate guns.

I have set my shooting bench up in the back yard at 30 yards for the winter to concentrate on this revolver . All advice I have received will be tested and appreciated , a form member has taken it upon himself to spend his time trying to walk me through the many variables , and casting some of his favorite boolits for me to try . So hopefully along with you fine gentlemen's help I will turn this around , with approximately 2500 rounds of cast boolits through this revolver I have yet to keep them in 4 inch 25 yard group off a rest .

Like Jeffrey - full length 357 brass will usually group a little tighter than 38 Special brass in a 357.

FWIW, my Python does not like light loads. Shoots way better with std .357 mag and lighter bullets (125gn seems to be the one it likes best). Cast bullets get gas checks.

Your pistol may have a similar preference. Sounds like you are on track to find out.

Well I did it , I loaded a dozen up with plain base gas pop can checks , and a dozen just plain base boolits out of my saeco # 382 50/50 mix -with win 296 and win mag primers . The world did not come to a end no sign of leading , or extraction problems , primers are fine possible a little flatter than the light loads . Charge was as close as possible to starting load I could drop with my setup . It is a little more snappy load but not in a bad way .
