I've come to the conclusion that my powder coated (not Hi-Tek) casts need not be overly large as regular lubed casts. Example is in a 45 Colt rifle I use to have to load .454 casts to prevent leading and good accuracy. Now with powder coating .452 shoot just as well as the larger diameter casts. Anyone else seen or experienced this?
Yeah, seen it, do it too.
For instance in the .45 ACP...bore .451", I size .4518" & 200g. RNF @ 875 FPS and 10~11 BHN...shoots fine.
Same with the Colt SAA except that I size them .4525" so they snug fit the cylinder throats...shoots fine.
Same with the 9mm and .38 S., size a tad over bore and soft enough to obturate...still 10~11 BHN. I don't push the 9mm like a bolt of lightning and all is well.
All the cast are PC'd, mainly clear gloss my favorite but use other colors too...then size after casting and after PC'ing, I think it makes for a more perfect jacket.
