After examining the cocking piece on my 340 C; I decided to try the bolt from a Springfield 840 E in the 340 to see if the nearly new bolt of the latter would function and allow a better trigger pull. The difference was a dramatic improvement, to say the least. After searching Numrich and a few other sources for a new cocking piece with no luck; I thought perhaps I'd attempt reshaping the angle of the existing part. I realize the risk of doing this; but the part is ruined as it is (trigger pull has to be twenty lbs or so). By moving the location of the slope further to the rear of the cocking piece, I'll be reducing the energy of the firing pin impact. Are there other problems which I will run into in attempting this?
