Lead alloy build up on NOE 311-202 cup point pins

I recently had a casting session with the NOE 311-202RG4 with the cup points, and noticed I got considerable lead build up on the cup style pins to the extent that the mould halves were no longer closing properly. Anybody else experience this? How do I avoid it in the future?
As a fix, I prolly shoulda heated up the pins with a propane torch to remove the lead with the aid of a leather glove, but I chose to try and sand the lead off with 500 grit sand paper. I have yet to recast and see if I reduced the diameter of the pins!

I would imagine that you have put micro/tool marks on the pins with that sandpaper.
I now...would heat them with a torch to melt the residual lead and wipe it off with a damp/very lightly dampened cotton rag.
Then...I'd polish them with a micro fine polish to make them smooth again.
After that...I'd rub pencil carbon into the pins as best as I could. It won't look like it did anything but I assure you on the micro level that the carbon is there filling any pores that remain.
