    That would be a gas check for powder bag charged gun.

    Gas check sealed the breach after the powder bags were loaded, and it looks to have the primer also.

    I have a 60mm German trench mortar shell from my Dads LGS . I was 8 or so. I am 61 now. It is dated 1915.
