Who's the best to get 22lr to .224 bullets setup from?

I'm thinking about trying to make .224 bullets from 22lr and/or 17 hmr cases. I'd like to be able to make all the way up to 77gr boat tail .224.

I'd like a complete setup, core mold and dies. I have a good press that will work. I'd also like to get them in my lifetime....who's door should I be knocking on for a good but resonably economical kit.

Bt sniper, bt simple 22 kit. Cheapest most complete kit around and works with standard reloaders.

BT Sniper here on the forum is by far the least expensive for the quality you will get and will sell you anything from single dies to a complete set-up.

I echo the same answer: Get the setup from BT Sniper. I have quite a few of his die sets, and they all make what even he considers to be HIGH VOLUME production.

Me too. Another vote for BT sniper. The little bullets are amazing. Not very happy with the D rimming die but otherwise they're great.

Your derim die was purchased without the nitride hardened finish. It probably requires a good cleaning every once in a while and additional polishing. No reported problems from derim dies with nitride finish.

    edit.....

After receiving blackoutbuilder's derim die it was determined the height of the die in the press was too high do to an extra spacer that was added causing the reported problems experienced. The plane steel of the derim die was not a problem or concern, it is good to go again!

    Swage on!

Ok thanks I will polish it up and try again. It took for-ever for brassworld to restock 22 lr so I wasn't able to do anything without brass. Now I have some and can get back to it.

    BlackoutBuilder,

Got your die, I have put 60 cases threw it with zero issue, 100% success so far. I suspect it is an issue with the height/position of the die in your press. I am certain we can get this figured out for you so you can experience the same near 100% derim success as myself and other customers are experiencing.

Give me a call and we will get you back on track.

OK for those that are curious. I did talk to BT on the phone, we got this figured out. I had created a shelf for my dies to sit in which raise the die over a half an inch in the press causing the problem. So as I had suspected I set my Dies up wrong and that's why they were not working. Follow the instructions! Past that, I am very happy with these products. I will be buying the 30 caliber stuff when it's available. Make no hesitation in dealing with BT sniper he is an excellent machinist and has excellent customer service. When I get a proper computer, I will be doing a review on these. I could not be happier with these bullets in flight. They follow one right after the other into the target like a train.

that die height when de-rimming will kill you. [or just flat wear you out]
little girl was hanging [literally] off my press handle trying to punch some rims down.
I made about 2 partial turns to the die and it became a 1 handed operation.

Could someone explain WHY that happens? It's all in the same line up and down,...?? I know that it works, but I like to know the why and the how whenever I can.

Got the die back today. Set it up properly this time, and it works. BT left a piece of brass in the die so I could set it up in the same spot he set it up in.

The leverage of your press cams, as you come around the cam leverage increases.

Its pushing through the step anyhow, why would it matter to the brass if it just takes more effort to make the stroke? Isnt it the same thing? How is it harder on the brass.

It should not be harder on the brass unless you get stopped and have to apply even more force to start it moving again.

Let me try my description again, as your press cams over, the fulcrum moves and gives more leverage.

Late to the conversation but I went with Blackmon press and dies. It makes .224 bullets out of 22LR. Ive had the set up 5 years and I got it all in 4 to 5 months. I have made thousands of bullets on it. I have ran these up to 3600 fps in 22-250 with no problems.
