Im looking for info on how many lbs of lino and SOWW to get 13 bhn

Where can I find info on getting my lead at 13 BHN using Stick on Wheel weights and linotype? I'm needing it for 9mm and 45 ACP.

    Thank you

There is a free calculator, designed by a member here, that you can download. A quick search through the stickies should find it for you. Wheelweights are pretty close to your number already so I would think it would take very little lino to get you to 13BHN.

According to the Lead Alloy Calculator, 2 lbs. of SOWW and 1 lbs of Lino will get you to 12.7 bhn.

Yeah, your original post says stick on in capitol letters but I guess I missed it anyway. But the calculator is still a nice tool. Sorry about that!

Last time I blended a batch like you are doing they ended up @ 16 BHN after a month...still have some of it and it's still @ 16.

EDIT: Oops...I just noticed you went 3:1, my mix was 2:1...yours should have been @ 11.7 BHN. Wonder what is different from the calculator?
I expected a 12.7 BHN thereabouts and ended up with the 16 and carefully weighed it too. I do't use that ratio any more.

Will water quenching make the BHN go up?

As long as the Pb has Sb in it, it will water quench and if it has a little As it will water quench even better...go higher in BH.

Clip on wheel weights can go from 12~18 BHN.

Keep in mind when you cast and let air cool your hardness will be low at first in a few weeks it starts getting harder some say two weeks to a month. If you water drop the hardness is there if the alloy contains the right stuff. So if your mixing alloys to make a batch up keep that in mind I made the mistake of mixing casting and testing hardness as soon as it cool off to the touch and that did not work out to well lol I do not water drop so I learned to mix cast and wait man that was hard to do I am the want to know now kind of guy

I have to read and re-read this to try to keep track of all the details...seems like every time I read it I pick up something new!
