i finally made me a die to make .323 bullets for my Hakim and 8mm Mauser.. finished up the reamer today and went ahead and made the die and heat treated it.. i used a die that did not turn out like it should have for the .308 so i was not wasting anything, i just annealed the die and reamed it and rehardened it and polished it. i should be able to get upwards of 200gr bullets with it.. now i just got to make 2 other dies and a new core mold to fit it. just need a core seating die and a new trimmer die.. i think ill make the new trim die adjustable with the lower pin so i can get any length jacket i want..

the bullet shown was a test bullet to see how it swaged. this is a 150gr flat base open tip. it didn't turn out as pretty as it could have being i was swaging up the .308-.311 jackets and cores but it did ok..

yep.. not sure as to why they only want to do those designs unless they are easier to make or that is what they are used to. with this setup i can do varmint bullets for the 8x57. i can drop in a bronze piece into the die that is part of a custom ejector pin and make flat points for hunting or whatever else i want..

    .318 is also needed.

wow.. looked up .318 bullets for the Mauser 8x57-j and some are almost a dollar a bullet (upwards of $0.80 a bullet). rare as hens teeth also and all the ones i found was round nose.. i could do a die set and make hollow points or soft points for half that price and do well if there was a big enough market for them.. i could even use the same jackets im using for .308 and .311 bullets so the only die i would need would be a point forming die and the swage punch..

****... i say they could keep them for that price and requirement... i can change the dies on my pneumatic press out in about 3 minutes and do any number i want or need for a lot less than that. for $13,000 i could make enough bullets to give an elephant a hernia.

finished product.. i call it "Junkyard Dog" ammunition, as everything but the powder and primer came from junk yard.. the jacket is 0.025in thick copper flashing from scrap copper bin. the core is old fishing sinkers from the scrap lead bin. the brass is resized Winchester 30-06 that i got out of the scrap yellow brass bin.. finished bullet is 150gr hollow point sitting on top of some H-322 with Federal #210 primers running at around 2,800fps. my Hakim seems to like it..
