    My first CB deer

This guy came up close so I neck shot him with my 30-30 Mauser 93 loaded with the Lee C309150f over IMR 3031 at 1800 fps.
I tried to recover the boolit but the spinal bone shards were too sharp. I'm hooked!

Good shooting sir;I am amazed and will catalog your hunt with my own, I've been told by numerous experts and novices that the 30-30 just won't kill today's big whitetails .and lead boolits forget about it why they come apart at the muzzle unless you cast them harder than woodpecker lips and push them slow.
Good job again and thank you for sharing, your 30/30 load isn't much different than mine except I use a slightly heavier boolit, and low and behold the deer I shoot with them just fall over dead from right their distance to about 120 yards

Good job! There are few things more satisfying than harvesting a deer with your own CB's. Fine-looking rifle as well, I'm betting you didn't buy it like that. I'm a fan of Timney triggers, thinking you will be pleased with the results.

I want to try my .358 but my doctor won"t let me yet because of the recoil. That's why the 30-30 has the Limbsaver on it. Thanks for the complements- Props to hp drifter for the stock work; I Did thd rest except rethreading the barrel- my brother's shop did that. It's fast becoming a favorite.

Nice deer, and congratulations on using a cast boolit. I was hoping to use cast this year but it didn't happen.
Perfect pic to. I salivted a bit, I bet the meat will melt in your mouth.

Nice work, didn't you hear the 30-30 is obsolete

Meat in the freezer.... I am intrigued by that pretty riffle. Bolt action 30-30... if I had a riffle that nice I doubt it would leave the gun case.

No, it's more modern than the action by 2 years! I have never seen a deer get far after a shot of 30-30. Ever.
On the Barrel Works forum in Gunsmithing tricks is my old thread. I can post some pics since those are gone now.
I always wanted a bolt 30-30, but Win 54s and Rem 788s have eluded me. I like this gun. I just got lucky.

    Nice rifle.
I noticed that limb saver right off.
I was working up a higher pressure load (groups of 10 shots) for my 06
after 5 or 6 test groups it was time to go home.
first thing I did was ordered a Recoil Eraser - Slip-On Recoil Pad, Gel Filled.
They really help. I was a few days before I even thought about shooting again.

Those Limbsavers are awesome. I have one on my 12G for shooting skeet.
