    Hot Glue Trick

Finally did it for a nose punch last night. Worked great. I was sizing the Lee .312 155gr. and the nose punch I have was smushing the ends - glue gun to the rescue. I used acetone on the nose punch and then squirted it full of glue. While it was still hot and malleable I pushed it against a plastic bag on the counter. Made it nice and flat. Clipped the overflow off with nippers and went back to sizing. Worked perfect.
You can miss fast & you can miss a lot, but only hits count.

HMG is for a LOT more than just sticking things together! I use it for many other things aorund the metal & wood shops......like above. And it makes great "plastic" boolits for plinking with very light loads or primer only!

Glad the glue worked out for you. I used epoxy once,, hot glue just sounds easier.

I need to try glue boolits. Read a lot bout them and never tried it out..

I make glue stick boolits for my .45 ACP with primer only. They will not cycle but that's ok by me. Still fun and you can re-use them if you can find them.

Keep in mind light/primer only loads will NOT cycle you semi guns. I use them in revolvers and bolt action rifles ONLY. Sorry.

Glad it worked. I would have fooled with epoxy to do it and the hot glue gun would be a whole lot simpler! I keep one around as it is just so plain handy to use on a lot of things. I use mine a lot when I have to make cardboard boxes stronger for shipping - quick to glue the flaps down and they won't go anywhere. Glad it worked out and thanks for the post!

There seems to be several types of not glue sticks available. Any recommendations for which is best for nose punch? Anybody use them for customizing seating stems?

I am missing the detail memo. I have only sized using a Lee push through sizer. I have been looking into sizing and lubing at the same time which requires a die of the proper size and a top punch. My understanding is the top punch matches the nose of the bullet. So... I find this process interesting, but how does filling the top punch with hot glue help?

For boolits I use the cheap milk colored stuff from HF. For structrual stuff (nose punches, forms, etc), I use the very expensive MUCH HARDER hi temp brown glue. It is the kind used for structural industrial purposes and is far better than that cheap milky white hobby stuff gals use to glue flower arrangements up with.

You use the glue or epoxy to fill in void of a large cavity nose punch and it makes a perfect reverse image of your boolit.

I first used hot melt glue in a top punch made for just that purpose by The Perfessor. Worked great. I also made some snap caps the same way. Just fill the primer pocket. If some sticks out, just trim it off.

BTW I used some slow set glue sticks. I work slow too.

Hot glue doesn't last....mine deformed in short order . A small ball of epoxy putty will last a lot longer. I have one epoxied seating stem that's 20 years old and I'm still using it.

That is why I use the EXPENSIVE COMMERCIAL dark brown HM glue for such purposes. You cannot buy that at HF.

No. I buy them from an industrial source thru my company that only sells to commercial businesses. I have seen "brown sticks" in some hardware stores that may be "similar" but no guarantee they are the industrial grade. Never seen them in the big box stores...they only sell the cheap consumer milky white sticks for hobbyist use.

    Check on-line for sources?
