Acetone vs Bluing?

Gents, I need to remove the remnants of some red finger nail polish from a blued revolver's front sight. I got the majority off with the use of a small plastic scraper, but need to get into the grooves behind the sight. My plan was to use a Q-tip with a small amount of Acetone, let it sit for a bit, then plastic tooth brush it away ....but my concern was if it would affect the surrounding bluing. Any comments, suggestions, other solvents, etc - Any help would be appreciated - Thanks Bill in MA

It has no effect on bluing except to remove any oil on it.

Lacquer thinner may do a better job removing the paint..Pretty sure it won't hurt the blueing, at least it hasen't on mine..

I've used brake cleaner on blued guns without issue so I can't see acetone being any different.

Acetone is one of the best solvents, degreasers you can use on guns. Won't hurt blue and leaves
no residues. You just got to be careful not to get on any plastic parts or stocks, it will ruin stock
finishes and dissolve some types of plastics.

Acetone is one of the prime components of various laq thinners. Neither will harm bluing......they just remove all the oil. Be sure you re-oil the metal once done or it will rust rapidly.

Acetone/laq thinner will dissolve just about anything else - many plastics, lacquers, most paints, varnishes, etc - so be careful to not get it on any of those!
