    .444 marlin cast deer

We got our first snowfall here in Nortwestern Ontario , Always a good time to head out and hunt deer. It didn’t take too long I was only in the woods about an hour when A doe gave me a nice broadside shot at about 50 yards. I took my shot . She didn’t react like she was hit but the shot felt good .I gave her 15-20 minutes and went to check .sure enough blood trail. It was a strong blood trail on white snow not hard to follow. She made it about 60 yards .
The cast boolit I was using was the Lee C 430-310 RF . Cast from water quenched wheel weights with a BHN of about 22 . This was launched at 1600 FPS from my 444 marlin . Sort of a midrange load for the marlin. It punched clean through the ribs breaking a rib on both entrance and exit , This was my first deer with my home cast boolits in a Centerfire rifle . I am very happy with the performance.

I have a couple pics but they aren’t uploading I will try again later

The first picture is the entrance wound the second pic is the deer , rifle and a cartridge. The exit wound is just above the scope. The second pic got cropped somehow I will see if I can fix that . There a couple more pics to add so hopefully I can get it right next time

I'm always amazed at the tenacity these animals can show. I doubt that boolit expanded, too hard in my opinion, but a .43" through and through to the boiler room and she still managed 60 yards. That's tough, right there!

    Nice shooting and congrats!!!
