It's not late war. I know that's a Captain Obvious statement but the safety knurling and AA sights look early to mid war. I know I would have paid that. Arisakas are weird but wonderful kind of and the action is strong as can be.
Hard to read the series marking. Looks like a Nagoyo Arsenal rifle (1923-1945 operation). Appears to be a Series 2. Not a lot of info on dates of series 2.

Not sure about the wood on yours, but the ones I saw at the gun show this weekend were 399 - 599 and the wood looked like they had been through the war

I guess I screwed up. About 20 years ago I bought 3 in fairly nice shape of a guy at the tavern for 75 bucks for the pile of them and 6 boxes of shells. He wanted 30 bucks a piece for them and 5 bucks per 2o for the ammo but apparently wanted beer money fast. I gave them away later to different people. They shot fine but sure were ugly.
