    Gator checks vs regular

I am fixing to order some gas checks for my lee c312-155-2r mold for 300 blackout
I will be hi tek coating

Looking for 30 caliber checks I see sage lists 2 different copper ones for .308/.762
One has gator check designation, the other does not

What is the difference and which do I need?

    Also copper vs aluminum checks?

I use the standard 30 cal Copper Gator brand GC on Lee CTL312-160-2R.
    Fits great, crimps on tight.

With that said, it seems more of my Lee molds have a shank that is undersized, then having a correct sized GC shank. maybe measure a shank of one of your boolits, and then ask Sage before you order.

    >>> edit: Oh I see you mentioned PC. are you gonna install the GC after PC? If so, that would be good to measure the shank after PC.

Well I'm not sure as I don't have the mold yet, I just ordered it last night

As far as coating, hi tek doesn't add much thickness at all but I was planning on installing them post coating but you brought up a good point I need to look into that and see if I should install before or after coating

    Isn't PC usually .002 or so ?

If a GC shank is the correct size, so the GC is "snap fit" and then you add .002" of PC ...you are likely to have issues.

Hi tek is more like a stain it doesn't add very much thickness at all

I have a gas check expander for when I check the powder coated bullets. Weird but some gas checks work on different bullets better. The gator 30 cal checks worked just fine on my Lee bullets.

I'm using Josh's Cu GC for the BO & 30/30, they work well but I still prefer the Hornady for accuracy work.
Edit: I would check after HiTek as the outgassing may pop them off when cooking.
