    newby question

You all have got my interest peeked
I think I have the process down but have a few q's
will the powder coat come off if you size them after you coat them
and just what advantages do I gain by coating rather that doing things the
old fashioned way of sizing and lubing

You can size before and after powder coating. Your choice.

Advantage is being able to powder coat bullets easily and quickly. While traditional lube takes a bit longer. Also lube smokes a bit when shot while powder coating doesnt. It works either way.

Powder coating is more durable than lube. It is more slick also. I size after but you don't have to. There is a possibility that sizing will scrape off some of the powder coat if the bullet comes out too big after powder coating. You just gotta try and see what happens. Most folks say "size UP" not down. If you size up the powder coat will stretch with no problems.

If the sizing die scrapes the powder coat AND the powder coat passes the smash test, you need to polish the sizing die. (unless the boolit is WAYYYYYY too big) 2-5 thou shouldn't be a problem, a little spray case lube helps (they also make a boolit lube for Hi-Tek coating that works well BUT the spray tip tends to plug up if not cleaned after every use)

Smash test - take a baked and cooled PC'd boolit, smash it flat or into a square. the powder coat should not chip or scratch off.

Old fashion lube can be sticky and messy, it also can dry out over time.

lube also will melt off bullets here in Tex during the summer. Then it collects dust

    PC doesn't have these problems

I size after PC with no problems

Powder coating does not oxidize in long term storage.

Most folks do push their loads hotter, most everyone has their special mix of alloy, so you would need to experiment.

If the coating comes off during sizing , something went wrong. It did not cure completely....
