Help me I am confused,
It's a 1860 revolver, but there is talk of 'primers' ?
Do you mean percussion caps?
or primers?
Percussion caps.
Steve
First revolver I ever shot was an original 1860 Army which a friend and I found in the rafters of an old barn marked for demolition when they built I66 near Manassas, VA. Gun when we found it was loaded, wrapped in oil cloth and the wrappings covered with bird droppings and dirt. We shot the gun dry and all five loaded chambers went off. Took the gun home, cleaned up to about 70%, after lapping bore was dark, but strong. Used .380 pure lead balls in the cleaned out, salt &pepper chambers, with 20 grs.of FFg and felt wads cut from old hat and lubricated with wheel bearing grease. Old gun was more accurate than we kids were. Good for minute of soup can at 40-50 feet.High school buddy got Colt factory letter on old gun authenticating USArmy issue, probably was battlefield pickup.
The ENEMY is listening.
HE wants to know what YOU know.
Keep it to yourself.
I thought the 1860 Army was .44 caliber?? If it took .380 balls, was it in fact an 1851 Navy?

Only 24 shots with mine so far. Same load w/o the Wonder Wad. Accuracy wasn't what I hoped. Elmer's Sixgun book says use a wad. I hope that helps. Like yours, #11 caps are tad large and have to be pinched on. #10s won't fit on mine... I also intend to try some FFg. All my BP is Elephant.
The only 1860 clone I have these days is a cheaply obtained Pietta made with a brass frame and cylinder and barrel will not interchange with a Pietta 1851 .44 caliber clone. So I got a brass frame and will shoot lowered charges in it with short boolits only (aka round ball).
Mine is a Navy arms branded 45cal (.451 RB) that has Uberti makings,
I've only ever fed it Goex and Hornady balls, I have a single cavity Ideal mold,
but have never used it lit off with Remington #11 caps.
I've seen too many used "rust monsters" from Pyrodex, to be willing to use it myself, plus
what is the point of shooting a replica revolver without the clouds of smoke and the sulfur smell?
Mr Sheesh,
BLUEBELLIES.
(The devil made me do it.)
