Questions about dry patching / sizing

Is it common practice to cut the patch paper so that it folds neatly under the bullet for the sizing punch?

my first few patches were 1 in long and i think i need to cut them to 3/4.

I wanna be beyond the crimp groove and just enough to seal the base.

In my bpcr rounds I got much better accuracy omitting the tail. I cut my patches so when wrapped and folded a small circle of lead shows in the center of the base. Makes for a very flat, square, and consistant base. but with BP I also use a heavy wad between powder and bullet.

Ok. So I'm right on this idea. My patch was way to big for the 165 RD bullet I'm working on..

Wet patching and twisting the tail is so much more easier. The base becomes perfectly flat when sized. Sizing with lee resizing lube makes the jackets nice and tough. I am also patching little .270 bullets and maybe soon 6.5 mm bullets.
