It is a wise idea to review the financials of any charity a person might consider donating to, find out how the money is actually spent and what it is spent on.

Agreed. There are some out there that are nothing more than scams. Turned out after the hurricane in New Jersey that the American Red Cross was much less effective and used much, much more of their donation money as overhead than did the Salvation Army. Of course we all know about the Wounded Warrior Project now. Giving to charity is a great thing, but choose which ones carefully.
