    Question Cci-br2 & wc-872...

I am presently using CCI-250 primers with a charge of 49.0 grains of WC-872 (Super Slow Burner) and getting good accuracy from a 30-40 Krag…

I see some CCI-BR2 benchrest primers are on sale and I was wondering if they might help improve accuracy a bit or is the WC-872 too slow and needs a magnum primer to help it get going?...

    Thanks…BCB

a colder primer might do better with a 2-5 gr kicker charge of a faster powder.
how far do you want to go looking for accuracy from a 30-40 Krag.

personally I wouldn't spend the money for BR primers for an old bolt gun.
well okay I would but it better be a ridiculously damn good shooting old bolt gun.

That is sort of the way I was thinking, but I just had to ask!!!...

Actually, it is a custom MGM barrel on an Encore. It is pretty accurate being able to hit groundhog-sized silhouettes at 350 yards with pretty good consistency when there is NO WIND at all...

I suppose I could improve accuracy a bit if I took more attention to my boolits. I admit I do a bit of "overlooking" in some cases. Maybe that is what causes the occasional miss for seemingly no reason at all...

    Thanks...BCB

I burn a lot of 872 and use magnum primers.

being picky with your casting is never the wrong thing to do.
especially when distance or speed is involved.

I've used BR-2 for a very long time. Haven't found a powder it wouldn't light. Turned a .338 Win mag into a shooter, that wouldn't group 2.5 inches. Everything the same and the groups shrunk to MOA with just the primer difference. Longer hotter brisanse ( spark ). The primers are hand selected and are the first off the presses on a retooling setup. Worth the extra in my mind.
