    Hornady bullets "surprise"

I recently ordered 3k 125gr HAP bullets for my 9mms. Guess I wasn't paying attention because I realized they were .356 when browsing Hornady's site earlier today. Not sure how well my PPS will like them.

Regardless I was in the garage to confirm the diameter w/ a micrometer. And apparently I bought 1k of the 115gr HAP at some point in the past. So I opened the box to check their diameter since I had the mic out. They are indeed .355 like the box says. But I found over 50% of them to look like this.

So now I have to pick media out of the hollow points of over 500 bullets. Not like it takes much effort. It's the fact that this little surprise is going to cost me time. The bullet at the top is a 125gr bullet and it has a tiny piece of media in it as well. First time I've had this happen, in tens of thousands of bullets, and can't say I'm happy about it.

I use Hornady 180gr XTPs for my .40 S&W and my 10mm match rounds. I buy them a box of 100 at a time. The last box I bought, about 5 or so had media in them like yours. Possibly a new method Hornady is using that is not working? I'd email them and give them feedback. I thought mine was just a fluke; apparently not.

It very well may. I have to size cast bullets to .355 to get them to feed reliably. No leading but it doesn't like fat bullets. The bore is spot on at .355. I'm not worried about the CZs at all. I know they will feed them w/ no issues.

The HAPs aren't marketed as cheap range fodder. They're marketed as a slightly cheaper alternative to the XTP. They're meant for targets so no need to expand. The media is a nuisance that can be easily removed.

Yeah, it's odd when a 9mm barrel is cut to the correct dimensions

XTP from hornady came the same way for me, I thought i'd dropped it until I found another in the same box that looked the same.
My feedback page if you feel inclined to add:

Sounds like it's time to contact Hornady. I never tumble loaded rounds w/ hollowpoints for just this reason.
