    Flea market powder measure

I would love any thoughts comments or knowledge on this powder measure, the guy wanted 20 I gave him 10.

The adjustment seems a little stiff and I notice a pleasant click with every 180° turn of it but it is stiff once the powder chamber is close to closed completely it seems to hate to back out, ie: increase the capacity.

    Thanks,

Looks like the early SAECO. At the time, they claimed to hard plate the drum oversize, then grind and lap it to fit the body, for a very close, smooth fit.

I say carefully disassemble it for cleaning.

You got a good deal needless to say. In good shape they tend to vary between $50-75. Below average condition usually bring $30-45.

Thief! Congratulations, that is IMO one of the finest drum style measures ever produced. It's my go-to for stick powders like h4895. It's much better at measuring stick powders than my Uniflow.

Evapo-Rust will clean the screw and other steel/iron parts without damage. Graphite will work as a lube for the piston.

Thanks, David2011, Tonight I ran some 3031 through it and I was amazed it barely had a hickup, I am thrilled to own it. I'll be keeping it.

I have the same measure, minus the powder knocker, and have been amazed at the consistancy of the settings!

Once you hit your mark this measure will produce the same amount of powder until you either change lot numbers or go to a different powder!

Mine, like many other measures, does not go down to very small doses of pistols powder but this gets used for loading mostly rifle stuff any way where it shines.

As mentioned already evapo rust and graphite will bring the adjustment system back on line with no damage to the metal. a good deal at 10 bucks and easily worth 80 to 100 once cleaned up, should give your grand kids good service taken care of from now on.

When Char-Gar says something like that then I know I can take it to the bank!

I was on my way to a gunshow last Saturday when I got that measure at 8 in the Morning on my way to the show. By 11:00 I had scoped out the entire show and there was but one single rifle of interest to me, a 4-digit 03 made at RIA. By 11:45 I was on my way home with some 2400, some Krag Brass and a 4-digit RIA U.S. Rifle Model of 1903. Damn the tax-man! My $350.00 rifle cost me $369.00. By 2:00 PM I was in the backyard shooting it. That was a week ago today. This morning that rifle and the 2400 was sending 311284s downrange and printing 2 inch groups at 100 yards and I have no doubt that the groups would have been much smaller if my eyes were not so bleary.

I understand the risks oh shooting that rifle and I accept the risk.

I have been using one of those since my Dad gave it to me upon my return from Desert Storm. Great powder measure for rifle cartridges. As stated, it only goes down so far. Many years ago, this became a problem and I made one that measures smaller charges, but, or course, it won't measure much above 30 grains or so. Both get used from time to time.

My Lil Dandy and Lyman 55 get the most use, but I like that old Saeco.
