Eley new production target ammo for CMP

CMP sent an email last week advertising cases of new production 22LR standard velocity made by Eley. 10 bricks (5000 rounds) for $355 including shipping. I never used to buy standard velocity 22 until I bought my silencer, so all of my hoarded supply is high velocity, and I only started buying standard velocity after the 22 panic. Given that the best price I've been paying for CCI standard vel is $39/brick, I figured it would be a relatively low risk investment to order a case.

And it is loose in the box? As you likely know.....Target is not the same as match. Could be just fine for your intended purpose. Eley used to contract its "target" grade to Mexico and likely still does.

    All guns are different.
My Remington 541-S really loves Eley brown box ammo.

Good price. My CZ 452 really likes the CCI suppressor 45 grain 975 fps. Otherwise I usually shoot CCI std velocity.

    Okay, title said target ammo.
The CMP bulk ammo is "Standard" (velocity) and Eley is now offering the Standard in their lineup again and this is that.

It should be good for many uses and may be better than the "target" grade Eley coming out of Mexico. None of my rifles much liked the Target in the past. Club ammo, a level up from target was good and hopefully this Standard will be very good too, assuming your rifle likes it. It has a paraffin wax based lube like Target and Club, which is not what Eley uses on the higher end match grade 22 ammo.

The CMP price on this "Standard" (velocity) ammo makes it very attractive. I am going to get some.

My case arrived today. I’m hopeful I can shoot a bit after work tomorrow. I was fortunate enough to have a deer I needed to get into the freezer tonight.

+1 on any range reports, particularly 50-yd & 100-yd testing.

I have a case of this and am curious myself, but our rain has moved in for the winter (Oregon), so I may not take mine out until next spring.

There is also a detailed discussion on this new line over at the CMP forums, but little hard data yet on 50yds & over.

I shot several groups today from my Savage with my Form 1 silencer. Performance was indistinguishable from the CCI standard velocity this rifle prefers. I will post some pix if I get the chance, but the takeaway is that it’s good stuff. Great for the price.

I personally think eley ammo is starting to "drop off" as the go to stuff for us small bore guys, I started running SK ammo out of my anschutz, and the game picked back up.....but that being said.....I want to see targets....that's a great price, I may have to switch back.....

Just for the record, GONRA remembers watching Eley .22LR ammo coming off a
Major US Ammo Manufacturer production line back in (very roughly) 1970's.

How long was the length of time between ordering and receiving the ammo?

Was a bit different for us folks who ordered CMP's Aguila SV during the first part of the RF ammo crash; my records have an order date of 4/21/2014, receiving my Ely substitution in Sept. of 2017, lol.

The CMP store has sold Remington, aguila, and eley.....the Remington as I recall was in a white box....or was that Winchester from the 90's?

My order was placed in February of 2014, got the email from the CMP last month that I could purchase the Ely ammo. Missed the cutoff as I was out of contact at our cabin in the Utah mountains, emailed them when I got back but due to work schedule (nightshift) wasn't able to coordinate time for them to call. Last I checked they have it available still on the estore, but I just bought a new car and dropped another $1k on an M-1 Carbine so the $3xx.xx for it is low on my list of priorities right now. Besides last time I checked Target Sports had 5k boxes of Aguila SV for $100+ less than the CMP Ely.
