Has anyone tried melting t/c bore butter down to liquid to saturate rb patches?

T/C bore butter works OK. I use MelFry cooking oil. Works as well and you can buy it by
the quart or the gallon sizes. It don't go rancid and is good for lubing after cleaning.
I just rub it into the patch material until it saturates it. I don't think it is any messier than dipping patches in a melted lube and your hands smell fairly nice...certainly better than old engine grease leaves them smelling....![]()

I used bore butter on a big bag of patches 30 years ago. Put them in a zip bag and still using them. I don't shoot the side lock much anymore but I have patches ? lol
Am I correct that T/C Bore Butter is mostly coconut oil?

Just because a handful of people on the Internet share an opinion doesn't prove it is correct.
T/C does it with their saturated pillow ticking patches.
A deplorable that votes!
I melt it in the microwave in a yogurt cup and put the patches in to soak it up, store them in an Altoids tin. Fits nice in my shooting bag.

At what point, then, is the approach of danger to be expected? I answer, If it ever reach us it must spring up amongst us; it cannot come from abroad. I melt it in a copper round tin (track of the wolf) and lay 1 1/2" patches in it one by one and keep adding bore butter until well saturated. The patches peel off one by one with the greatest ease and have a copious amount of bore butter on them for wiping the bore. I do the same with the .020 patches I use, no worries and it smells great! I don't know what's in bore butter, chime in if anyone knows. I also mix it with beeswax for revolver seal and soaking shotgun wads. Good stuff, I don't bother making my own, this just works too good.
quail4jake, when you added beeswax to bore butter, did it make it stiffer?
