    SKS Troubles....

I traded into one of these things, not my cup of tea,but I want to get it functional before I pass it on to a new owner.
Problem is,the bolt gets stuck after it is cycled with ammo-after one round.
I was thinking it was a replaced spring that Bubba added, but he is not talking.I did shorten it twice already, and it is still sticking!
    What gives,suggestions folks?
    Thank you kindly!
    Jeff

You might want to check the gas piston and tube for roughness or steps. I had one that had that problem.
Is the bolt slamming open really hard? Can you compare it to any other SKSs? Maybe Larry Gibson can help you too.

Could be carbon or lead buid up in the gas tube. Have you pulled her apart and looked in there? If ok there, and assuming its much like an AK design, look at the rails that the carrier rides on.

    What say now?

Then polish it with JB's bore paste and a .410 mop. 1/2 hr minimum.

If its a Yugoslavian SKS You may have a gas leak problem at the gas shut off valve.
If you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck!

If it's a Yugo SKS, try switching the gas shut off valve to the other position. It's likely in single fire mode position.

The spring was too weak, and the gas port as well was needing attention. My friend Tony has it's ownership now,and he was made well aware of problems BEFORE he bought.
