    Ideal 311 329 514

I bought a mold recently and could not find much information on it so I wanted to share what I know. The description I found is "311329 Designed for the .30-06. Good for target work from 200 to 500 yards. (GC, SP, 185 - TP is 329)" from the Ideal Mold description website. The OAL is 1.2065 and width of .3115, I am planning on using this for a 7.62x54R reload and hope it works well. I posted a short video on my youtube channel about it.

No.311329 made its first appearance in Ideal Handbook No.23 (1912), where it was listed as No.308329. Seems to have disappeared from the literature after Lyman Handbook No.43 (1964).

First, is it big enough for your rifle? Lots of Mosins need something a bit bigger, but you need to check the fit in your rifle. Second, start with slow loads since that big, unsupported spire point is going to want to slump over in the bore.

I have that mold. it's not so good in MN but works well in 303 with perfect .310 or less bore. I found it useless in 2 groove bore.

I haven't shot it in 308 or 30-06 but I would it I had the chance.

texassako I was planning on powdering coating the round, do you know how powder coating might help with the slumping of the round?

I don't PC, but it is the ogive and where it starts that is the issue. I don't think the PC is going to change that much. It will probably do all right up to about 1600 fps. If you want faster from a similar pointy bullet, look at the NOE copy of the 311365.
