I have a very nice 336 that was manufactured in 1981. I have looked it over very carefully and cannot find a JM stamp. I have seen mention of the stamp as an indication of quality. Since my gun, by far, pre-dates the Remington fiasco, does the absence of the JM stamp mean anything?
Not obsessing over it, just curious. It is still a very nice gun regardless.

It should be in a small oval on the left side of the barrel, close to the receiver.
OK! I found it. It is a very light stamp. The oval is only half formed and the "M" is barely noticeable but it is there.

That is common. Had a few over the years with incomplete or barely legible stamps.

The JM marked a bygone era at Marlin. Supposedly better quality, however, the last few remlins ive bought have been flawless, despite seeing a few less than stellar examples after the changeover.
