    Steyr

Seeing the post in the rimfire section about the Steyr .22, brought back this question. What is the correct pronunciation for Steyr?

    I have heard the following:

    styer (long "I" sound)
stare (as in thousand mile stare)
    steer
    stayer

    Just curious.

Going back to my military days, I was taught to pronounce it "sty-er" with a long I. But then again what did us Army guys know... we had a hard enough time with English.

Roy - you'll get different enunciation whether you live above or below the Mason Dixon Line
Just start the word with STR and you'll be fine unless you are from Austria where they made Steyr's. They have the German accent of the word

You could call the U.S. distributor at Phone: (205) 417-8644 and see how they answer the phone. Of course, they're located in Alabama, so they might say "Sty-uh" Arms.

Me, I pronounce it "Stire" (rhymes with "tire") but I could be totally wrong.

Like a sty in your eye. Sty-ur dime-lur pooch. Steyr Daimler Puch. Or not. This is fun. "Sock-o"
Sako. "swore off ski" Swarovski. Is it Teekuh or tick uh ?
