    Tannerite question

OK, so a few weeks back, a friend & I had a ball shooting a few Tannerite targets. We were using my Winchester Featherweight .308 for the rifle, 150 gr bullet, 125 yards distance.

I'm planning going shooting this weekend and wondered; does the caliber of the rifle ( and associated retained energy of the bullet) have an impact on the level of detonation of the target?

I'd like to take one of my AR's rather than my deer rifle. Will there be much difference in the brisance of the detonation of the target be affected by dropping from a 150gr bullet from a .308 vs a 55gr to 77 gr bullet from the .223?

    Just curious

    Thanks in advance
    Bob

I believe that as long as it is above 22 rf. It says on the label what min. is. At least from what I remember.

There is no problem so great, that it cannot be solved by the proper application of high explosives.

The homemade tannerite I've been around would have trouble with 223. I'd take the 308 just incase.

Hit with 308 or 223, doesn't matter.it just has a minimum speed of Around 2000 fps if I rember right to set it off consistently. I tried my 223 ar and 308 at different targets all went boom the same

Ive been told its more of a velocity thing then a bullet diameter or weight.

The stuff I've shot probably wasn't milled fine enough.

The detonation rate does not change when the impact force changes.

!7 HMR and up sets it off just fine...But not in Nebraska! Here the State Patrol has defined mixed Tannerite as an explosive and you need a permit to possess or use!

Use any centerfire rifle for it. You can buy Tannerite for rimfire that is made specifically for it. You can also make some yourself from....stuff....
