I could run patches down the bore of my MN 91/30 until my arm fell off and they will never come out clean.

Keep trying. I bought one in 2010 that came clean in 2015.

I thought the same thing...until I used electrolysis on the bore.

Got Finnish model 27 Moisin Nagant rifle in a trade years ago. Took about two weeks of soaking and brushing until no green on the patches. Hasn't seen a jacketed bullet since. Rifle has a bright shiny bore. Winchester 1895 lever action in 30-40 krag. That one probably hasn't been cleaned since 1915 the year it was made. Cupro nickle fouling is a pain to remove. Frank

For the last year or so I have been using either Ed's Red or Ballistol on the bore. Think I will try one of the foaming bore cleaners and see how it works out.

I've been working on an M48 barrel for the last few years. Slowly whittling away at it. I think I will try a foaming bore cleaner next. Crud has been coming out in layers. I'm afraid I won't like what I find as I fear the bore may be finely pitted.

Wipe-Out foaming bore cleaner is all I use now. For really bad fowling can let it set overnight.

I guess my 'worst' was my Argentine 43 Spanish roller..... When acquired, all parties involved, including myself, believed it to be an unfired arsenal refurb. It literally took days to get the cosmoline 'crust' out of the entire rifle. I was leery of the bore at first....it just wouldn't clean up to sharp rifling...but after a few days, wow! So...yeah, maybe I'm bragging on it just a bit!

I've actually been very lucky with the few I've acquired....so far, no real demons. Let's hope it stays that way!!

I think some of these guys really love scrubbing their smoke poles. Im with you. Let science do the work.
Most folks see a firearm as rifle, pistol, shotgun, ect.... I see a canvas.
