filler needed?

for 82% fill loads and up for 9.3X62 with h380 powder, would filler be needed? what about mag. rifle primers? and the same question for imr 4064. I am trying to decide between the two. I was going to go with imr4320, but someone on here wrote that it can get unexpected pressure spikes near maximum loads. so if that true I want to stay away from it. thanks a lot-Travis

No filler should be needed with 82+% load density.

With H380 a chronograph and target would be the best way to find out if magnum primers are beneficial in your load.

agree with Larry.
the chrono will let you know if your having velocity variations.
the fixes are better ignition, or powder positioning for better ignition.

been loading for over 30 years and never used a filler in any case with any powder. Shot thousands of 4570s with 2 grains of bullseye and 3 grains of unique and they allways went bang and shot great.

that makes sense, now I have heard that stick powders ignite better than ball, because there is more space in-between grains? true or false?

Partly true. Ball powders, the medium and slower burning ones, are harder to ignite because of the heavier retardants used on the to control the burn rate.

Which is correct, they flatten ball powder from it's true spherical form to slow rates along with deterrent coatings. H380 is one of a few true spherical powders, perfectly round little balls with plenty of surface area, so to get it down to rl 15/4320-actually between 4320 and 4350- speed it has plenty of deterrent. I always figured they just flattened/wavered it and call it 760/414(4350 speed) Most all loads I've used of it performed best with mag primers, including in 22-250. Published data for it in the 9.3x62 with 286 bullet have start loads of 93% load density and max loads of 96-97%. I use some surplus ball powders of medium speed at 70% load density WITH DACRON FILLER and they perform great, without the filler not so great, you don't need a chrony to tell, the click-bang is enough to make you(me anyway) stop. A feller can do all the calculating in the world but the real answer comes when you pull the trigger.
